Stephen Sporn, ND was born in Detroit, Michigan and received his BA from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He was instrumental in helping setup the People's Food Co-op there in the early 1970s.
He studied acupuncture in the summer program at the Meiji Institute in Osaka, Japan in 1975. Finishing his pre-med science requirements in the San Francisco/Berkeley area of California he graduated from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, Portland, Oregon in 1982 with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine. During his 27-year career, he has been involved not only with a clinical practice but with the politics of integrating naturopathic medicine into the current medical model in California, Texas, New York and Missouri. He is currently licensed as a naturopathic physician in Oregon (#537) and Kansas (#21-00023).
He was the country's first Wellness Doctor and Program Coordinator and for a California wellness-based Health Care Plan that paid for alternative medical services in southwest states in 1992. He also developed the first wellness telephone hotline service for this company.
He has served as Vice-President of Northern California of the California Association of Naturopathic Physicians, founder member and President of the Texas Association of Naturopathic Physicians, President and retired, lifetime member of the New York Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a founding member of the Missouri Society of Naturopathic Physicians. He is currently a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the Texas Association of Naturopathic Physicians (TXANP). He has also served in an advisory capacity in Texas, New York, Arkansas and Missouri to state regulatory agencies on topics relating to alternative medicine and health care reform.
He has been a champion of patient's right to choose qualified naturopathic physicians for his entire career. He graduated from Missouri State University with a Masters in Public Administration, May, 2006 and is certified in Mediation and Conflict Resolution. He is currently in private practice in San Antonio, Texas.
